MEGHdin – Povidone Iodine

Description

Povidone Iodine non-adherent wound dressing is a single use device consisting of knitted viscose fabric impregnated with ointment of Povidone Iodine 10% U.S.P. (available Iodine 1%) in inactive ingredient base of polyethylene glycol & purified water. The impregnated dressing covered between two HDPE films and packed in a glassine- poly aluminum- poly peelable heat sealed pouch.

Intended Use: 

Povidone Iodine non-adherent wound dressing is designed to protect wounds from infection, it is suitable for superficial skin-loss injuries, minor burns & ulcerative wounds 

Indication: 

Povidone Iodine non-adherent wound dressing provides effective, long lasting activity against a wide range of pathogens including Bacteria, (including MRSA), 

• Protozoa 
• Yeast 
• Fungi 

Contraindications: 

Povidone Iodine non-adherent wound dressing should not be used in following conditions: 

• In case of Duhring’s herpetiform dermatitis 
• If the patient is pregnant, breast feeding, or being treated for kidney problems. 
• Infants up to six months old and patients with thyroid diseases, deep ulcerative wounds, burns or large injuries. ‘
• Patients with impaired renal function or with a past history of any thyroid disorder who should also not be exposed to iodine as they are more susceptible to alteration in thyroid function.
• Before or after use of radio-iodine until permanent healing has been achieved. 
• On patients who are sensitive to iodine or Povidone Iodine.

Precautions: 

Povidone Iodine non-adherent wound dressing should not be used in following conditions:

• If the seal is broken or pouch is damaged 
• If the product has expired. 
• Single use only, do not reuse or re-sterilize. 
• To avoid toxicity or risk of thyroid-related complications, iodine products should be used with caution in children.
• If a skin reaction occurs, discontinue use of dressing and seek medical advice. 
• The dressing shall be used by a skilled healthcare professional only.

Frequency to change: 

There are four conditions in which the dressing may be required to be changed:

• Povidone Iodine non-adherent wound dressing’s effectiveness will depend on 

         the condition of the wound, if large quantity of exudates is produced, changes   

         may be required daily or twice a day. 

• Povidone Iodine non-adherent wound dressing loses colour as the active      

         ingredient is taken up by the wound – this normally takes two days after which  

         the dressing must be changed. 

• Apart from above mentioned conditions the dressing can be used for up to 7  

         days. If required to use more than 7 days it should be under medical  

         supervision. 

• Not more than four dressings to be used at any one time. 

Direction for Use: 

• Clean the wound affected area with warmed normal saline or under running tap 

         water to remove debris. 

• Ensure the skin around the wound is clean and dry, Peel open the sterile pouch  

         and remove the Povidone Iodine non-adherent wound dressing with sterile  

         forceps 

• Peel away the first layer of the HDPE film. 
• Remove Povidone Iodine non-adherent wound dressing from the secondary  

         HDPE film and gently apply dressing directly to the wound. 

• Secure the dressing with tape or non-medicated bandage or second dressing as    

         appropriate. 

• If dressing is difficult to remove carefully stretch the dressing in diagonal  

         directions, avoiding trauma to intact skin and follow routine wound 

         management procedure as per medical advice.
